Multi named 6600m high mountain, Sumeru in sanskrit or Kailash in Hindi or Kang Rimpoche in Tibetan, in western Tibet is considered as "Navel of the universe". The holy mountain, Kailash, is located near the headwaters of the Indus, Sutlej, Karnali and Brahmaputra rivers, which radiate away from the region in the four cardinal directions. Kailash's vivid mythological history goes back to the time when Kailash was considered the embodiment of Mt Meru, the invisible center of the earth. Kailash is the most sacred mountain on the earth to the world's Hindus as well as Jains, Tibetan Buddhists and Bon Pos. Hindus consider Kailash to be the abode of Shiva, the god of destruction and rebirth.
